DAWN DISHAW CERAMICS

I was born in a small town in northern upstate New York. In 2003 I graduated with my BFA from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. I hadn’t used a handmade pot until my sophomore year in college, but have been making and using them ever since.
I’ve always been an organizer. I am attracted to tiled roofs, brick buildings and knit cloth. In a similar way I’m attracted to the rich patterns and repetition of Persian paintings and historical architecture. I find that I am interested in them for their traditional and historical meaning as much as I am for their visual impact.
Ultimately, when I make pottery I try to get out of the way and let those inherent interests and impulses initiate the decision-making.
